Description

This programme aims to equip nurses with the linguistic tools necessary to communicate effectively in various healthcare settings. Topics covered include patient assessment, treatment procedures, medication administration, patient education, healthcare documentation, and inter-professional communication. Emphasis is placed on practical communication skills essential for nursing practice, including greeting patients, providing instructions, offering reassurance, and conveying empathy.

This will be achieved by foregrounding the following communicative skills: Greeting and everyday general conversations, Clarification, Politeness, Empathy, Instructions, Advice and Problems related to the body.

Predominantly TCNs employed in Malta as nurses who need to communicate effectively and appropriately in Maltese in their work environment. Including interactions with patients, peers and doctors.

Requirements

This is a basic MQF Level 2 course in Maltese, hence there are no prior qualification requirements.

The learner will be able to:

  • Effectively communicate with patients using appropriate language and tone.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to patients regarding treatment plans and medications.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and healthcare professionals during patient handovers and inter-professional meetings.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills during patient assessments and interactions.
  • Write clear and accurate healthcare documentation, including patient notes, progress reports, and incident reports.
  • Adapt communication style and language to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
