This programme aims to equip Care Workers with the linguistic tools necessary to communicate effectively in various healthcare settings. Topics covered include medication administration, patient education, healthcare documentation, and inter-professional communication. This will be achieved by exposing learners to the fundamental building blocks that enable effective communication in the following areas:
- Routine dealings with patient and colleagues
- Nutrition
- Medical supplies
- Matters related to the body and hygiene
- Accidents and emergencies
- Therapeutic regimes and general healthcare
This will be achieved by foregrounding the following communicative skills, by learning the language of:
- Greeting and everyday general conversations
- Clarification
- Politeness
- Empathy
- Instructions
- Advice
- Problems related to the body.
Predominantly TCNs employed in Malta as healthcare workers who need to communicate effectively and appropriately in Maltese in their work environment. Including interactions with patients, peers and doctors.
This is a basic MQF Level 2 course in Maltese, hence there are no prior qualification requirements.
The learner will be able to:
- Effectively communicate basic phrases related to activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating and drinking)
- Communicate verbal cues related to mobility aids, safe ambulation and bed to chair transfers.
- Effectively communicate basic phrases to show empathy, compassion, trust and support
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and healthcare professionals during patient handovers
- Demonstrate active listening skills during patient interactions.
